Father and Daughter Team Up for an Unforgettable South African Hunting Safari

Dave and Carissa Isom joined us in South Africa for what would become an unforgettable family hunting safari filled with great hunting, plenty of laughs, and experiences they will never forget.

Hunting on a South African hunting safari

Day one got off to the perfect start. As the sun dipped low and the final light faded across the bushveld, Dave got the opportunity at a beautiful wide-horned Impala ram. With a steady shot and good composure in the fading light, he connected successfully and started the safari on a high note.

Early the next morning, we headed north in search of Kudu. This area has produced some exceptional bulls for us this season and once again, it delivered. After spending the morning glassing several bulls across the valleys and thick cover, we finally spotted an old warrior tucked deep into a thicket. The stalk came together perfectly and Dave made an excellent heart shot across the valley, taking a magnificent old Kudu bull.

Day three saw PH Chris head out with Dave in pursuit of one of Africa’s most striking antelope species, the Sable. The hunt proved challenging, with several stalks ending in busted opportunities as the bulls stayed alert and wary in the thick bush. Persistence paid off though, and when the next chance came, Dave made it count with a well-placed shot on a beautiful Sable bull.

The following days were packed with more classic plains game hunting as the Isoms continued their South African safari adventure. Time in the field produced success on Blesbuck, Red Hartebeest, Nyala, Zebra, and Gemsbuck, making for an incredibly rewarding first African hunting experience.

Of course, no family safari is complete without a few stories outside of the hunting truck. Carissa certainly added one to remember after taking a tumble from a horse while exploring the coastline with Jax. Thankfully no serious damage was done, and it quickly became another memorable part of an adventure-packed trip.

It was a real pleasure hosting Dave and Carissa for their first African hunting safari. From exciting stalks and quality trophies to time spent enjoying the South African bush and coastline together, this trip delivered exactly the kind of experience we love sharing with our clients.

To finish off the safari, the Isoms visited Mamma Margaret and the Home of Joy, where they made a very generous donation. Their kindness and support were greatly appreciated and made a meaningful impact.

We loved having the Isom family in camp and are already looking forward to welcoming them back in 2027 for safari number two!
