The Dusseldorp Family's Unforgettable First African Safari

The Dusseldorp family from the Netherlands joined us in South Africa for an unforgettable 8-day hunting safari adventure. It was their very first trip to Africa, and from the moment they arrived, the excitement and anticipation were clear to see. What followed was a week filled with great hunting, incredible wildlife experiences, meaningful moments, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Early March rains had transformed the property into a beautiful African paradise. The bushveld was alive with vibrant blossoms, thick green vegetation, and an abundance of wildlife. While the heavy rains meant a bit of road maintenance and repairs around the property, it was more than worth it. The entire landscape had come alive with colour, making every drive and every hunt even more spectacular.

For a family visiting Africa for the first time, we wanted to make sure they experienced as much as possible. Along with their hunting safari, we enjoyed incredible Big 5 game drives and relaxing in-shore boat cruises, taking in the beauty of the African wilderness from every angle. The family embraced every moment and quickly fell in love with the landscapes, wildlife, and warm hospitality that South Africa is known for.

One of the most meaningful highlights of the trip came during a visit to Mama Margaret’s children’s home. The Dusseldorp family arrived with generous donations including Easter eggs, a full month’s supply of groceries, and meat harvested during their safari. The children welcomed the family with warmth, gratitude, and smiles all around. Moments like these remind us that a safari in Africa is about far more than hunting alone — it is about people, conservation, and shared experiences.

The hunting itself was excellent throughout the safari. We spent long days moving between the valley thickets and open plains, glassing carefully for the right animals and enjoying every moment in the field together. The family experienced the true variety that a South African hunting safari has to offer, from challenging stalks in thick cover to patient observation across wide open country.

The kudu hunt

Without question, one of the standout moments of the safari came on the final morning. After hours of careful glassing and planning, Wietse was presented with an opportunity on a magnificent trophy Kudu bull. With calm focus and confidence, he made an impressive 300-metre shot that resulted in a truly beautiful kudu. It was a fitting end to a fantastic safari and a moment none of us will forget anytime soon.

From exciting hunts and incredible wildlife encounters to meaningful community visits and family adventures, the Dusseldorp family experienced Africa in a very special way. It was a pleasure hosting such a wonderful family, and we are grateful to have shared this journey with them. We look forward to welcoming them back to South Africa again in the future for another memorable hunting safari.
